ST. LOUIS — A retired St. Louis police officer was shot and killed Monday morning during a robbery attempt near Tower Grove Park.
St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden says that the man was a 67-year-old retired Sergeant with the department.
Police say he was unconscious and barely breathing after the shooting around 7:30 a.m. His name has not been released.
The retired sergeant was apparently confronted just outside of his home, and there was a shootout between him and the suspects, who got away in a dark-colored SUV.
Chief Hayden says that they are also investigating another person who was dropped off by a personal vehicle at the hospital at approximately the same time for any connection to this shooting.
