A couple in mid-Missouri has been busted and booked into jail.

Their crime: the lovebirds stole each other's hearts.

As recounted by Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman on his Facebook page, deputies responded to the county jail for a report of a disturbance during the afternoon of April 20. Once officers arrived, they discovered Shannon Mattli and Tommy Pickering involved in PDA.

The fun social media post was actually a clever announcement of the couple's engagement.

"After further investigation it was determined these two voluntarily turned themselves in for booking, stating they had been charged with theft of each other's heart. They reported they have reached a plea deal with the court and intend to accept a sentence of life together in the coming weeks," Heitman wrote on the post. "We are pleased with the outcome of this case. We wish them happiness and blessings for many years to come!"
