CHAMBLEE, Ga. (WSET) -- A newborn left outside a clinic in the Atlanta, Georgia area is being called the "miracle baby."

Doctors said the little baby was in a gym bag and found early Wednesday morning.

During the day, the baby was brought inside by staff members who thought the bag belonged to a patient, and they didn't open it.

A cleaning crew later found the bag on top of a lab collection box, opened it up, and found the child who still had his umbilical cord attached.

He was taken to a hospital to recover.

Doctors said he wasn't born full term and spent nearly a full day inside the duffel bag, so that's where he got the nickname, miracle baby.

Under Georgia's "Safe Haven Law," a baby can be dropped off at any medical facility up to 72 hours after birth, but the mother must provide a name and address.

This baby wasn't found with any of that information.

Now, the mother could be charged with abandonment of a child, deprivation of a child, and second-degree child cruelty.
