Sen. McCaskill, California Senator Kamala Harris Praise Each Other
ST. LOUIS —
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill gave California Senator Kamala Harris high praise late last week, and during an address in St. Louis Thursday night, Senator Harris returned the praise.
McCaskill called Harris a "leader" in the party's effort to form "an immigration policy that is true to the heritage of this country."
However, McCaskill is now facing heat from Republicans over immigration, because Harris has defended Oakland, CA. Mayor Libby Schaaf's stance on "sanctuary cities" and her decision to warn illegal aliens in Oakland of impending raids by Immigration officials. Harris also called for ending ICE recently during an interview on MSNBC.
McCaskill may have a tough time with voters, as recent polls found a split on building a border wall, and overwhelming support for deporting or detaining families who try to illegally cross into the United States.
Senator McCaskill has said that she would work with Republicans on a compromise bill on immigration reform, and said last October on MSNBC that her job is not to fight Trump, also said last week that President Trump is "very stubborn man who never says he's wrong" while introducing Harris Thursday night at an event in St. Louis.
Her prospective Republican challenger in the Senate race, Josh Hawley was quick to label McCaskill "California Claire" and stated that McCaskill and Harris "are completely aligned on some of the most left-wing issues in the Senate."
