Tennessee Congressman Cooper calls for full investigation into U.S. ties with Russia
In a statement released on his website, Rep. Cooper says he is asking House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) for a full investigation.
Cooper cites the resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn last night amid claims Flynn had contact with Russian officials prior to President Trump taking office. Cooper says he reiterated his call for a bipartisan, independent investigation into "Russian hacking in the 2016 election."
Cooper adds “Inappropriate contact with Russian officials isn’t just illegal, it’s dangerous. Congress should investigate these matters immediately.”
In a resignation letter issued by Flynn, the former Lt. General says he gave "incomplete information" to Vice President Mike Pence about what he discussed with a Russian envoy before the President Trump administration took office.
